We work towards a safer London. Where fewer lives face serious danger, our streets are preserved, and ultimately, fewer 999 calls need to be made. From homes to hospitals to London’s iconic architecture, our top priorities are education and prevention. We advise on evacuation planning, inspect buildings thoroughly, and identify potential risks long before they have the chance to become emergencies. We want London to be confident in how to reduce risks, and clear on what to do in an emergency.

Recruitment process

Firefighting is a unique job that very few can do. Our rigorous, eight-step selection
process is designed to determine if it’s the right job for you. It can
take between four and twelve months
to complete.

You’ve started it. We want you to look carefully through our site. Read about training school, the eligibility criteria, skills and behaviours. Find out as much as you can about life as a firefighter.

Complete our Outreach Programme:  

Outreach event: talk to the team, ask questions, and we’ll get to
know you.  
Information session: gain a full picture of the Level 3 Operational Firefighting Apprenticeship.

Outreach Experience Day: understand the practical aspects of the job.

Once you have completed the Outreach Programme, you’ll be told how to fill out a firefighter application. You will also have online tests to do.
